toy parade

we love when coyle does stuff like this. he usually lines up his toy cars and trucks somewhere. they might be side by side on the ottoman. they might form a circle on the floor. and just the other day he lined them up on the edge of the counter.IMG_0085

birthday

it’s hard to believe, but coyle is now a two year old.

bomb squad

when you live in a neighborhood like ours, you deal with a different status quo. yesterday afternoon brought a new chapter to our urban living experience. now, we’ve put up with some nonsense in our time here, but this was new.

around 3:30pm, sara noticed a police car pulled up in front of our house, blocking the flow of traffic. pedestrians were routed over to our side of the street. pretty soon, there were 7 police vehicles - two of which were a van and an SUV belonging to the “Metro Police Bomb Squad”. over the next few hours, with traffic completely blocked off to our street, a couple of police officers at a time would head up toward the house diagonally from us.

around dinnertime, sara finally went out and asked one of the police officers, “do we have any reason to be worried?”

to which the officer replied, “not anymore” and then he turned and walked away. long story short, nothing exploded and we’re still here.

for now.

our vacation in 90 seconds

we decided to do a little bigger vacation this year. we flew out to denver, rented a car, then spent the next 11 days driving around colorado and utah. along the way, we visited some good friends, did plenty of hiking, and saw all kinds of great stuff.

now, you can read the description below or you can just watch this video we put together of “our vacation in 90 seconds”.

day 1 - denver/longmont, co - we got to see our friends, john and wendy. they were gracious hosts and coyle loved playing in their yard. we wish that john and wendy lived closer to us.
day 2 - rocky mountain national park and an evening cookout back in longmont with john and wendy.
day 3 - hike in boulder, co then drove to salida, co. a super foggy morning hike up green mountain. later, coyle enjoyed playing in the snow at monarch pass on the continental divide.
day 4 - bad weather in gunnison, co, so we skipped black canyon national park and headed all the way to one of our favorite places in the world, moab, ut. that afternoon, we hiked in arches national park in the afternoon.
day 5 - gorgeous day hiking in arches national park
day 6 - headed over to the island in the sky district of canyonlands national park and did some hiking. enough to wear coyle completely (and i mean completely) out.
day 7 - left green river, ut and drove to mesa verde national park in cortez, co. we spent the afternoon looking at many of the cliff top dwellings and then camped
day 8 - spent morning at mesa verde, and got to see many cliff dwellings. that afternoon, we headed to pagosa springs, co.
day 9 - we headed over to near hooper, co and spent most of the day playing at great sand dunes national park. coyle loved playing in the cold water of medano creek. we headed over to alamosa, co for the night.
day 10 - we drove to colorado springs and visited our friends, jim and lesley (and mikah and paige).
day 11 - spent a good chunk of the day at cheyenne mountain zoo in co. springs with the hoyman clan.
day 12 - headed back home.

coyle at the "peeting" zoo.

while at the zoo today with our friends brad and blake, coyle found this goat extremely fascinating. it was probably more due to the fact that the goat was producing quite the stream of urine. at the end of the video, you can see where coyle almost gets his head pooped on.
